Ideally I would find myself
buried in the sand,
deep in the negev desert.
I would find myself
with a layer of skin shed
like a snake,
and a gleaming,
vibrant new one in its place.
I would fall to my knees and
throw my hands deep
into the burning hot sand
and dig with all my might.
I would unearth this new me,
pulling it from the clutches of birth.
I would watch it take its first breath
and witness the energy of life rumbling through the body.
Then I would lay may head down and sleep,
happy, knowing I had found me.
